Why are you offering Freenom World?

Freenom is about domains and DNS. As the second largest domain provider Freenom operates a large AnyCast infrastructure providing authoritative DNS services for TK, ML, GA, CF and GQ domains. This infrastructure is already in place and it's a no-brainer to offer also resolving DNS services on this large infrastructure. Freenom World's DNS resolvers are always close by, fast and we will - unlike other DNS resolvers - never store your IP address information in our logfiles.

Why is Freenom World free?

With the infrastructure of Freenom already in place there is no large additional cost to provide resolving DNS services. We want to provide Freenom's customers (with or without registered domain) the possibility to use a fast and anonymous DNS resolver at no charge. Start using Freenom World today by pointing your DNS to 80.80.80.80 and 80.80.81.81.

Are the DNS resolvers of Freenom World always up?

Yes. The DNS infrastructure of Freenom uses AnyCast. This means that Freenom operates many nodes around the world bearing the same IP addresses. If one of these nodes becomes unavailable because of maintenance or successful attack other nodes will automatically take over the service. Thanks to this matured technology you can be assured that we provide a continuous uptime.

How fast is Freenom World?

With many locations around the world, the servers of Freenom World are always close by. It doesn't matter if you are in Asia, Europe, Africa, US or Canada, South America or Oceania – we have servers everywhere. We will be expanding our AnyCast network with new nodes. If you are an internet service provider and are interested in running DNS infrastructure please contact us.

Why would I use Freenom World instead of other DNS resolvers?

Most DNS resolvers are with internet service providers (ISP's). Most ISP's are very good in providing access to the internet (routing) but lack the system management capabilities to offer a fast and secure DNS resolver service. Most of these resolvers are outdated. Large advertisement networks offer DNS resolving services as well - but these DNS resolvers may record information about your internet usage to optimize any advertisements shown to you. So don't wait any longer and change your DNS to 80.80.80.80 and 80.80.81.81.

Why do I need to enter two IP addresses?

In the description of DNS, known as RFC1034 and RFC1035, made in 1987, computers were slow and expensive. At that time outages were regularly occurring and AnyCast didn't exist yet. At that time it was important to have at least two servers running as your DNS resolver. Nowadays some operating systems still ask for two IP addresses. At Freenom World, 80.80.80.80 and 80.80.81.81 operate on two different physical networks (for the die-hards: 80.80.80.0/24 and 80.80.81.0/24) ensuring the continuous uptime of the DNS resolver services.

Do you support Mac?

Of course! We have HowTo videos available for all OSX and macOS computers. If you have older computers you can of course enter 80.80.80.80 and 80.80.81.81 as your DNS resolving service as well.

Why is Freenom World faster than using my own resolver?

There are four reasons to use Freenom World instead of your own resolver:

  1. Freenom World is always up thanks to the usage of AnyCast technology
  2. Freenom World is using the latest DNS technology (and updates it daily) to ensure attack vulnerabilities are kept to an absolute minimum
  3. Freenom takes care of the server/hosting expense
  4. Freenom is the second largest domain provider in the world. That means that millions of users are using Freenom World already, providing DNS answers much quicker because someone else may have asked the same DNS question seconds ago.

Can I also use Freenom World in my applications or services?

Yes. In fact we encourage you to use Freenom World's IP addresses in your application or service. The IP addresses 80.80.80.80 and 80.80.81.81 belong to Freenom and our own services and applications depend on the very same IP addresses.
